Minneapolis, Minnesota-based Nordic Ware was started in 1946 by Dave and his wife Dotty with $500 and a great idea. Their fame grew after they inventive the world's first "Bundt Pan" (which means "a gathering" - thus a bund cake, with its characteristic fluting, was a cake suitable for a gathering or party).

Dave & Dotty's Bundt pan was used at the1966 Pillsbury Bake-off by Ella Helfrich for her winning Tunnel of Fudge Cake recipe. Following the contest, Pillsbury was overwhelmed with more than 200,000 requests from people that wanted to purchase a winning Bundt pan.
